A little cumbersome but it works quite nicely, actually. Blue light works fine. The V-1 super-zoom also works (this is the one I have):

1. Provides ample light to assist with framing for all FZ cameras in low light situations where the lcd cuts out

2. Provides workable AF assist solution for FZ-1

3. Doesn't drain camera batteries, LED light batteries will out-live your camera, probably.

4. Especially effective using spot focus mode.

5. Longer range than most AF assist

Note not all of these work as AF assist, as the beam is not concentrated enough. I read where this one does - tried it, it works. Use this, and recommend spot focus and aim at a verticle line in the frame... spot focus + set focus (focus button instead of trigger) so you only have to set up once is effective. Pick one up and keep it in your gear bag or keychain... defeat a limitation for negligible $$$.
