Raynox dcr720 (.72x-52mm), dcr5000 (.5x-52mm), and Canon WD-55 (.7x-55mm). Comparisons are with the fz1 (w/ yoshida 295 - 55mm adapter) but results would be very similar with any fz series camera.

Observations:

1. The wd55 is noticeably wider angel than the 720 although their listed powers are about the same.
2. The wd55 vignetts in the left hand corners. Probably a deficient lens.
3. The raynox wa lens results may be somewhat improved using the 52mm raynox adapter on the fz10/15/20 thus putting the wa closer to the camera lens. Comparisons are with 52-55mm step ring.

See http://www.ishots.net/walens/ for complete setwith larger images.

Great post, Fred. I really like a wide angle lens but they really distort at edges... all of them. And they really don't seem to buy you too much with digitals. (Due to the aspect ratio?)

I think I'll pass. By the way, how do you get to try all these lenses out?

Nice comparison shots. I noticed the only one you did not try is the raynox .66x. They say it has minimal distortion. do you have any experience with it?
they have sample pix on the raynox website, but I'd like more experienced advice from user in this forum. At least, you guys would not be biased like ryanox trying to sell their products.
thx a bunch

Try this one, a japanese web page, for comparison of various wide angel converters for FZ1. In my opinion, raynox DCR-6600Pro gave the best result.

Web page translator - http://www.excite.co.jp/world/english/web/

Select - 日→英

Good luck

My wife also wants to know why I have all these lenses. What's the point? Hey, I have a lens fetish; aglass fascination! I also have a hard time relying on the experience of others, particularly when post processing can obscure subtle differences. Gotta find out for myself what's goin on.

Regarding the raynox dcr6600pro .66x, I dont have it, but I wish I did. That and the olympus wcon-07 .7x.

Whoa! Go easy! Just a ?. Thought - perhaps, you have a camera shop or a friend in the bid-niz. It's great to see your posts comparing these various teleconverters on the FZ-1... invaluable, expecially when you're thinking about shelling out the $$$ for one...

Whenever I look for one of these add-ons (...and I'll eventually get a wide angle, though I'm a little disappointed with them... Some of these things look almost like fisheyes... unusable imo) I always look for your posts and comparison. So far you've steered me in the right direction twice... the C210, and the Raynox DCR 250, so I owe you a debt of gratitude.

Thanks guys for the comparo. Akai, thaanks for the link and the webpage translator. I will definitely go for the 6600 from rayonx. No distortion. and i don't care if it is not a zoom-through. it still seems the best for my needs.

The translation page is a little bit tricky, but try till it works. you have 2 ?->? links, and it is the second one to choose. as well, in the next filed, select the second scroll done option. This one translated the page for me.

Akai, you rule
