Very seriously thinking of getting the FZ15 or 20 to replace my old Oly C720. Mainly because it has crappy auto focus in low light.

In looking through the threads I didn't see any comments on how the manual focus feels and works on the 15 or 20. Any one have opinion?

Thanks for your input!!

Go for the 20 you will regret getting the 15 without the manual focus ring ...add a little spice to life!

I got it and don't regret it.

I believe the FZ15 does have a manual focus ring as described in the specifications of the camera manual.

FZ15 has a manual focus ring! as does the FZ10 and FZ20.

It is ok, especially if you enable IS mode 1 you'll get it much easier. I use it together with the AF assist, puss the button all the way down, the AF does its job and from there you're free to finetune the focus using the ring.

I went for FZ15 and i'm more than happy!

Cheers,
A.

It's easy to do manual focus?

Some reviews say that it's a bit hard because there's no Metering system, or something like that.

Maybe this system could be fixed by a firmware?

thnx

The manual focus ring is fly by wire so it doesn't quite feel like one on a film camera. That is about the biggest difference. Also a manual focus assist can be turned on in the center of the screen. This enlarged area helps detect in/out of focus.

It works pretty well on my FZ20, and imagine that it would be the same on the FZ15. If you are making a choice between these two cameras, it will have to be based on something other than manual focus.

If you go from Oly to Pany you will lose the distance scale. Sometimes this feature useful in dim light photography when EVF/LCD can't gain enough light. But FZ20 is very good DC.
