Went to the cricket last night and took a few photos, ok so I took around 300. Here are some of the better ones, sorry NZmacro but as NZ batted second the light was really poor so the photos didnt really turn out.

LOL :-)The cricket sucks :-)Don't tell them who won ok. Nick might think that cricket is about checkmate mate.

Those shots turned out great IMO. Nice action shots considering the time and the lights. Excellent infact.

All the best over the ditch TM, when do you come back, how many months / years ??

Danny.

Ahhh Chooo... got a cold..
I really like to read posts where the authors whinge and whine about their pics being crappy.. You know why.. cause the pics always appear really good.
Nice Pics.. Maybe you could sell them to the Newspaper Sports column..

So you are there for a loooong time by the sound of it. good on you. My brother and his wife have been in Oz for 18 months so far, just touring around in a camper, large one, LOL. Looks like they might be there for another year. Just cruising right through the place. They have gone right around the coast and through the middle twice now :-), so they love it, except for the flies up near Cairns way.

Anyway, getting side tracked, it happens as ya get older :-). Great shots as already said.

Danny.

Hi Treemonkey!

I found this thread by searching for cricket. Great action shots.

Were they taken at the SCG?

Main reason for my post though, is to ask if you think a compact zoom will be good enough for cricket shots. 10 or 12x zoom gives 420mm max but I have read others saying this is not enough.

Planning on local club cricket, not the huge test arenas!

Regards Steve

Hi cricket,

I was wondering why that thread had came up again. If you want a compact zoom then Panasonic is the best, not arguments there.
these were taken at the SCG although we were sitting on the fence so the closest you can get. I have also cropped these images. My biggest issue taking these photos was light. They would have come out a lot better if I could have used higher apertures other than f2.8. I would recommend the Panasonic range for their ability to zoom and I would say that 12x with a bit of cropping would do ok. If you want some full frame photos PM me.
