has anyone tried to use one of these with a #70 or so filter for IR photography. As I recall, some CCDs have very good IR response, and others not so much

I believe, but you may wish to confirm with panasonic, that only the FZ-1 has "accidental" ir capabilities. The rest of the cameras in the line have an ir blocker - an element(?) in the lens that blocks ir light. This was considered an improvement, as ir light sometimes interferes with metering.

--- don't quote me, though. Wait for others to confirm or contact the manufacturer. Most - if not all, digicams produced over the last year or two have an ir blocking element.

I'm not sure if it's recommended by Panasonic or not, but I have seen some pretty nice IR shots taken with the FZ3 on another forum. I'll ltry to find out more details about them if I can.
