Just curious, if I want to meter on something, I think I have to point to it and press the shutter halfway and hold it. But that's also how I focus. So, is there any way to meter on one point, and focus using a different point?

Specifically, it might be nice to be able to zoom in on a face and meter on it, then zoom back out to focus. Is this possible?

There are atleast two ways of doing this:
  1. a) Focus b) switch lens to MF c) meter [/*]
  2. a) Meter b) switch to M and set aperture & speed from (a) and c) focus
[/*]
I've used both of these methods quite often with my 35mm SLR camera, and both these methods are possible with the FZ20. You didn't mention which camera you use.
