Is the Lexar 256M SD card a good one to get for the FZ20?

Is it fast enough for the burst capturing that the FZ20 can do?

Or should i spend more and get a Sandisk Ultra II equivalent?

Trevor,

I have the Lexar 512 and 1 Gig cards. Not the high speed ones just the regular cards. I am very happy with them. I have only done a couple of tests with the high speed capture but they work fine for 30fps video clips.

If the price is right grab one or two and then get one large high speed card when you know you really need it for something. Hopefully by then they will be even cheaper then now.

I've got a Lexar 256MB hi-speed card, and it works great. It reads a good deal faster than the FZ20 can write, so you should have no trouble using it in burst mode. I also use a Dane Electronics 512 card, their "normal" speed, which reads at about 9MB/sec. It's faster than the "standard" Lexar card, and should be plenty speedyfor most situations. If I REALLY want fast, I have a SanDisk "60x" 256 that'd be fast enough even for a DSLR... I'll use that if I'm concerned about burst mode speed, or if I want to try continuous mode shooting...

thanks!

Does the lexar packaging state that it's high speed to differentiate it from the normal speed cards? ie like Sandisk and Sandisk Ultra II?

Should i look for 32x or something else on the lexar card?

the Lexar hi-speed card says "high-speed" on the chip, and also on the packaging. Lexar's hi-speed chips are rated at 32x.

I did manage to find a high speed lexar card but ...

How does 32x compare to the Ultra II which do about 9Mb/s writes?

What does 32x equate to in Megs/sec write?

thanks once again.

The Ultra II is faster. "X" as used in measuring the speed of these cards is 150KB per second, so a 32x card will read/write at about 4.5-5MB per second. The Ultra II is, I believe, 60x... it writes at ~ 9-10MB/sec.Either of those is faster than the FZ20 can write, but that's okay... it doesn't cost that much extra for the faster card, and I'd rather not have the memory card slow things down if i want to capture a series of shots in a hurry...
