I just recently purchased an FZ 20 and have found the camera relatively easy to use and am generally pleased with the quality of my pictures. I have one area of confusion and that is the AF Mode options. I have been using the 9 area mode but I would like to know if there is one in particular that is best for all around or under what shooting circumstances one should use the other modes.

The biggest thing about the 9-area metering is that it slows down the auto focus. the 3-area focus provides the fastest AF function. i find the 1-area (center-weighted) focus to be fine for most work.

Many, myself included, proclaim use of "spot" mode most often.

I have had the FZ20 for about 2 months and have rarely ventured off "spot" .............. so far.

I've found spot the best for what I shoot.

This is a good example. It would be very difficult to get a consistent, accurate focus on the squirrel without using spot focus.

I use it almost exclusively.
