Interesting tid bid from the old Megapixel.net review of the camera:

"The Lumix FZ1 uses a Panasonic designed CCD that adds an extra layer of gapless microlenses above those normally used over the photo receptors of a CCD, as a way of boosting the quantity of light reaching the sensors."

I assume all the models in the Lumix line have this.

I do believe that all the FZ's have that. I wish I could remember the URL I read that from. If I only had a brain:?:

It was in one of the flash movies (I think)
To long for me to go through it on dial-up again.
