I wasn't able to take some flash pictures with my Vivitar DF200 digital flash because it was constantly being falsely triggered by flashing blue lights on a fire engine.

If possible, I'd like to fit a PC-sync cable socket to my FZ1. Has anyone attempted this? Can it be done? I opened up the onboard flash but could notsee any spare roomto put thecable socket (or figure out which bits to wire it up to).

Any advice or warnings ifI decide to take the out-of-warranty camera apart to look inside for a couple points to wire up the cable socket?

Whoa! Nothing I would do.Personally, I would let it go. I've only had the flash go off on one occasion prematurely from someone else's flash. It is an inconvenience that crops up from time to time but it's not worth trying what you describe.
