Hi guys, I'm very close to buying an FZ20 or a Minolta Z3 but would love to see some action shots before I do as I'll betaking mainly photos of Aussie Rules footy (95% of games in the day) from a fair old distance without a tripod.

I've searched the forum and come across the occasional action shot but was wondering if anyone out there had anymore to share or perhaps could relate their experiences with the FZ20 and action shots?

So far the FZ20 is in front, less complaints on the respective boards, better pics, but the price, AA batteries and movie mode is appealing to me for the Minolta.

Help!

Hi wedgie you will not be disappointed with the FZ20 it captures and freezes action shots.
have a look at the planes propellers and see how it froze them.

Different type of action, but they don't get much faster than this

So not exactly aussie rules :-)but is fast action, LOL. So they are from the FZ10 but the FZ20 would be just as good.

For more on these sequences take a look

About as fast as you can get and probably quicker than most DSLR's :-)

Great macros on your site Danny.
CD1000 Sony mmm unusual camera did some research on it.
note you also use the FZ10 also for macros.
you must have patience to capture those insects.
must try that magnifying glass idea.

You can just approach it from a technical viewpoint. F2.8 at 12X gives you more light and therefore faster shutter speeds than competing cameras in comparable conditions. The Canon S1 is close enough to be nearly a dead heat, but it is only 3Mp. Others in the long zoom category aren't really close for action shots.

I think this is the 'hottest' action shot I took with my fz20. Straight from the cam, resized only. (no, I didn't plan this; I was just following the one in the back, and the other one just happend to be at right place at moment :G

Hey Raoul, what a beautifull aircraft is that :G

EXIF (also availbe with the pic): ISO80 F/2,8 1/320s 282mm (35mm equivalent).

(edit: I was indoors with a double layer window)

Thanks guys you sold me.

Went to the camera shop today and the man behind the desk advised they'd sold 150 FZ20s before Xmas and were waiting another 2 weeks for the next bunch to come in. He had some Minolta Z3s but said it was definately worth the wait for the FZ20 if I wanted better pics.

I hate waiting but I am, hope to be joining you guys posting pics in this forum soon, thanks again!
