Adults do look the same except for size. The females are larger than the males. However, it's is difficult to sex a single bird because there is no size reference with which to compare. I couldn't tell the sex on this beauty, and I didn't really care. I was too awe-struck to really give it much thought.

All the best.

Thanks Spidie,

I was lucky to find the Bald Eagles. Just go out and shoot, shoot, shoot! Learn to use the view finder to compose and shoot moving objects. In my opinion it's easier to get a good shot doing that than with the LCD.

Best of luck,
smac

Congratulations, Magic shot.
One that anyone would pay to have the opportunity/be able to take.

Digital zoom mightdecrease the efficiency of IS (but logically it should not, for it operates on the 12x pic).

However when downsized to 1/2 - 1/3 the picturewill be far more useable.

It is always said that it is better to enlarge with PS a 12x image than proportionally reducing a digital zoom one.

I am not that sure at all.
Perhaps a 36x image reduced 3 times will be the same as an "optically native"12x.

PS

Smac, note that EXIF-VIEWER 2 reports that the digital zoom used in your bald eagle pic was 2,20x , thus c. 25x not48x total.
