This picture is the first in another burst of three. I accidentally had the camera at 48X zoom. I have been trying to avoid that if I possibly can. In this shot the Eagle had just gone out and hit something (a bird I assume) as it dove to the ground. I saw the Eagle tip and dive to the ground. The next thing I knew it was flying back to the tree with something in it's talons.
If you look close you can see some feathers sticking out. He/She then proceeded to rip it to shreds as he/she ate the whatever it was. It was raining feathers for the next few minutes. It was close enough that I could hear the beak tearing out the feathers. Probably about 80-100 feet away.
Way cool.

Oh, bye the way this picture has been seriously de-noised and sharpened.

This shot is very kewl indeed and at 48x. I would like to see what kind of magic willow1 could make with this one.

Amen to that. And thanks for the praise. I feel so lucky to be near this place.
I think everyone should come out and we can have a party. Drinks are on me.( as long as you like cheap beer and soda)
I really think I am going to get the Panasonic DMW LTZ10 Tele. I just think it would go so well with my obsession. Don't you?

helluva shot, smac! especially considering that the digital zoom degrades the image significantly, this came out really well!

i thought only the male bald eagles were 'bald'... am i mistaken in that? if not, then this would definitely be a 'he'... either way, they are magnificent raptors, and your shots capture their majesty very well! keep 'em coming!

Way cool indeed.

No, both adult genders have the white head. I'm not sure you can tell the sex of an adult by looking. I don't think there is much of a size difference, either.
