Good shot Tim! The color black is hard to get good focus. I see you used spot focus. Do you remeber where you focused on? Was any noise cleaning done with this picture?

no noisecleaning, it deteriorates when resizing it. iso50 on the fz10 also has very little noise. I did spot focus on the legs/feet of the bird.. pressed half, and aimed more up.

Very sharp picture at full optical zoom and 1/40 sec. Did you use a tripod or was this hand held?

handheld trough a window :G 1/40 is fast enought to get sharp pictures. It's possible to get sharp pictures at 1/10 at 12x zoom.
