I received my new FZ 3 camera yesterday and am loving it. HoweverI also ordered a spare battery and a 1 gig memory card from Newegg.com and it arrived today. I thought I had ordered the right ones for the camera but to my dismay they were both larger than what my camera will handle. The memory card is a San Disk 512mg SD flash card (looks too large in the packaging and the battery was like three times larger than the one the came with my camera (for a camcorder, I guess).

So before I return and re-order I would like to make sure I know what I am doing.

I found a Kingston 512 mg Elite Pro Secure Digital (high speed) card model sd1512-s for $53.00. Is that one that will work for me?

The battery that came with the camera is a CGA S002A/1B Lithium Ion but I don't see any with the exact same numbers onthe Neweggweb site. I did find one that looked pretty close in size from the photo and who's number ended in 16A/1B. Does anyone know if that is the same or where I can get a back-up? I suppose I can go to the Panasonic web site and pay full price if I have to.

Why I have you here maybe I can ask about a UV filter. Are they all the same? I picked up one at Best Buy today and the salesman told me they are all pretty much the same.

A final question on a carrying case for the FZ 3. I am thinking about a Tamrac. Any ideas on model?

Sorry for so many questions but I just want to get started on the right foot.

Thanks,

Greyguy

Greyguy, I don't have an answer, but more questions along this line. I also just bought an FZ3; now I need to decide on a memory card (a 'normal' SD or the ultra) and a card reader and battery. When I read the posts I get more confused all the time. I've read that Sandisk memory is unreliable and that some card readers don't work right. Now I need to worry that the cards/batteries I buy don't fit. I hope someone can help.

Well guys, I haven't had my FZ3 much longer the you all have but I'll do what I can to help. If it's really an SD card it will fit. Some of the bubble packaging makes them look larger then they are. I have both a 512 and 1gig Lexar card the both fit and work very well. Lexar, Sandisk Ultra and ATP seem to get the best press, along with KingMax but I really don't know about that one.

I also have a Lexar card reader, work all the time. Have a cheap OfficMax card reader, works great also. No worries about the card readers, just get a cheap one is my advice.

On the filter front. From what I have read the Hoya Pro UV is the best. The local store didn't stock them so I just grabbed what they had. Promaster I thinkis thebrand. I may get the Hoya some day but this one is working fine.

The batteries are available many places on line, same size and spec for any FZ so as long as it is listed for the series it should work.

greyguy,

I have purchased KingMax 256MB SD Platinum (2 each) plus KingMax 512MB SD Platinum (2 each) for both the FZ3 and the FZ20. They have all worked fast, well, and flawlessly. (From NewEgg.com)

As far as the battery, I bought 2 from Buy.com and they work nicely so far (month or so) They were only 16.95 plus a few buck shipping. They are Digital Concepts brand. Here are the links:

Newegg IMHO cannot be beat at this time for these memory cards. Be advised that new technology is coming soon (1-6 months, who knows) that is even faster and the same price. My advice is to buy just what you need now and see. Check out this thread for more info:

And for card readers, check here:

Look for my post there for a cheap 12 card reader that works great.

Hope this helps.

The SD card should work. New Egg doesn't carry Panasonic replacement batteries, so I would send that back. Here's one you could use.http://www.batterybarn.com/cgas002.htm:arrow::arrow:

Yes it did. Not exactly as secure feeling but I have no worry about it falling off.

I stopped at Click Camera and picked up a Promaster 55mm UV Haze and your right Brett, it does feel a little sloppy, but it doesn't come off.
