... this is a somewhat strange partnership on its face. Panasonic has the state-of-the-art mass production capabilities, engineering, and outstanding (though low profile) optical engineering/production capabilities.

So, what does Olympus bring to the table?

... their name (just like Leica).

Which is fine, it's just marketing. Pana is fully entitled to do what they need to do to sell cameras, which is why they're in business.

Nick Olympus originated the four third standard.

So may there may be some license thing.

The st'd makes sense and will reap Panasonic sales.

Look at all the diff DSLR's standards now.

Think in terms of 1 standard agreeable to all,in the end the user benefits cost will be lower more lens choice not tied to one brand.
Cross interchangeability bodies // lenses....

I'm good for the FZ-1 for the forseeable future. I won't play "the camera game" with the manufacturers or brands. I'm hooked on photography, not the technology.

No

The Lumix FZ1 f2.8 36-430 zoom is great no mirror slap small does not draw attention.

No DSLR can or will match that.

EVF negates the SLR adavantage.

Only in low level light is the DSLR better and lens changeability.
