A little close up of a wooden painted owl. Manual focus, I think like 2x zoom, no more than 2.5" away. Comments, suggestions, rips, cheers etc. welcomed. Just resized, no cropping. or post production blowup.

Nice closeup. Good depth of field, good exposure, and great focus.

For a first closeup I'd say you going in the right direction. Now all you have to do is shoot, shoot, shoot, and have fun. One area to play with is the lighting, it's the most diffeicult thing to get right because of the close proximity.

So far So good,

Good photo... love the woodwork. With all the bird shooters here I have not seen one real, live owl shot.

I am issuing a challenge... YES, THIS MEANS YOU! Shoot and post a shot of a real, live owl - in nature, zoos don't count! (And - no Mr. Baits, read your PM, ya can't use stuffed ones either!)

We have bald eagles, do do birds, Terydactals... but not ONE stinkin' owl! What kind of photo form is this anyway! What are ya, 1/2-a-sissy? No (...as in zero, zippo, nada, goose eggs) owl shots!

Gentleman's "challenge"... :G

Nick: Owls are tough! First off, normally a night hunting raptor, with totally silent wings. We hear them very rarely here, but I'll go out looking!

Nick: No, I should be so talented. I can't draw, sketch or anything like that. I am of a more scientific bent. But I do write my dogs poems and songs. Go to

I'll check this out. Ya know, never owned pets, 'till I got married. Wife is a "cat person". 6 mos ago we adopted an adult golden retriever. Man, love that dawg. Truth be known? More than most people. It depresses me a bit to think that they have relatively short lifespans. It's all I can do to take care of him. I know how I'll react when it's his time... and it will be sincere.
