A new style nickel, fell out of my pocket onto a rod and gun club button under my touch lamp, so I lined myself up and took this handheld macro. I corrected white balance in camera.

The price was 60 million francs, about $15 million; $11,250,000 was to be paid directly, with the balance to be covered by the assumption by the United States of French debts to American citizens.

So that's the new nickel design? Weird.
In addition to the new Louisiana Purchase nickles, I've also picked out a few new nickles honoring the Lewis & Clark expedition (guess after honoring Sacagawea on the golden dollar coins they decided to pay a more modest tribute to Lewis and Clark as well).

Kind of wish the mint would come out with some new coins that had designs which were similar to the old walking liberty half dollar or the mercury dime.

I've written a long letter to the Fed, suggesting that we honor our great American professional wrestlers. I suggested Hulk Hogan's head on the dime. (...it's all in my "Manifeso" soon to be posted on-line.)

E Pluribus Unum, all.

I didnt know the US paid for the french for Louisiana , nice bit of history to know. I wonder when the US purachsed the UK ?

on a side note, I'm going to run for President if Ralph Nader or Howard dean don;t next time round: I promise the following:

4 weeks paid holiday + 5 more public holidays so we can take more pics.
A proper Medicare Program - just incase something happens while out taking the pics and you dont have adequate or any insurance.
Increase the minimum wage to $10/hour and give everyone a 1-2 hour lunch break. So you can spend even more time taking pics.

This sounds reasonable to me, and I would vote for you in a heartbeat.
