I was seeing some friends off on Christmas morning and saw this guy perched right across the street. I ran inside for my camera and shot a few quick pics. This one was taken at 12x from about 25' away.(f8, 1/200 sec, ISO 100).8)

Boldbird; Must be the boss of the hood :G

Just a small note; it rquired me quite a few clicks to get a good view of the whole picture; If you post an image, could you please resize it to for example 800x600 or so?

Cheerio! GB

I like these larger photos, especially when I can click for download rather than wait for them inline.. It shows what these cameras are really capable of.. Now if I could find a Hawk, I could compare shots. Not too many of them in my area though :?

Nice shot..

Nice shot-looks like he had his Christmas dinner:-). Very good colors.

Jeff-where are you at in MI-here in the "Thumb" we see quite a few hawks-but usually when driving in the car. They like to perch on the poles and look for prey in the farmers fields.

Norma,

I'm just outside of Detroit.. There may be a few hawks around here but I can't say I've ever seen one though I'm sure I've heard a couple. There's plenty of prey for them here (squirrels, rabbits, birds that relieve on my freshly washed car, etc) and in my mind, they would be welcome.

:-)

Hi Jeff,

I used to live in Warren till marriage took me away from big city life. I don't remember any hawks there either but plenty of critters-possums to name one. And yes the birds doo great business for the local carwash.

Happy :|,

Thanks for all the comments. This was my first picture posted here, when I looked at the photo in the forum I realized the image was large and will resize the overall dimensions for future posts (I only compressed the image to meet the max file size).

We had a pair of Coopers nest in a tree down the street last year, not sure if this is one of the parents or youngsters - but they are regular visitors to my south San Jose, CA neighborhood!
