I tried a few shot using my tripod. I used the on camera flash. I will post the settings with the pictures. The only thing I have done to these pictures is re-sized them to 750 x 500 pixels for posting. I did no post processing whatsoever. I hope this helps.

The first picture is taken with the open flash, no diffusing.
Mode P f2,8 @ 1/60 OIS off, 2X optical zoom, Auto focused, AF assist light on.

Second photo

Same setting except I placed a double folded piece of Toilet paper in front of the flash, I know, how did I come up with such a classy diffuser? My mind is just gifted that way.

This time I used Aperture Priority at f4.0 time 1/60sec and the 2 sec timer.

Finally here is a shot of my set up. As you can see I just used a gift store jewelry box that had a black felt insert. I don't see a whole lot of difference between any of these shots. They all seem to come out reasonably sharp and that's without doing anything else to them. Best of luck I hope this was of some help. I know that MY wife is excited that I can now take close ups of her jewelry to achive her patterns for future reference.
