One of my first macro shots with the FZ20. No PP, images reduced only.
Zoom at 1x, Arperture priority, F8, 1/50, spot focus and spot metering, hand held.

I really like the first one, the lighting is great. The black background works perfectly.

well done for your first try I might say !!!!

1- lighting - superb

2 - comp - superb

3 - color - good

4 - shadowing - near perfect

5 - sharpness - the hint of soft focus is superb

out of 5 stars....I give it a 4

disclaimer : just my thought as I am no pro.....

Thanks everyone for your positive comments.
I cant wait for spring to arrive when I'll have a wider variety of flowers to take pictures of and improve my skills.
Thanks again.

Great! Just a question. Why f/8? Is it required to give more DOF in macros? I wonder if that is the reason I am not getting as good macros as I see here.

wise, yes its all about dof. It is especially important when using add on lenses as these can reduce dof to 1-2mm! I have also found that the image quality at full zoom is improved when using f/8.

First one is love at first sight. You have an understated style, rather than bombastic sharpening and oversaturation. The second picture grows on you. Perhaps autoadjust the levels in PS? Just a thought.
