Hi all, Today my computer monitor has begun the process of giving up the ghost. After 10 or so years I can't complain much about that but I have to get another soon. Otherwise I can't read all the tidbits of wisdom here and offer my own (be nice now). What I am asking is what kind of monitor you use and if you had to whould you buy it again..

I know the above doesn't really have much to do with cameras so To keep this panasonic related here's a sunset I took yesterday. Yes, I know there's a bunch of junk in it but from where I was it was the best shot I could get. Aperature priority, f5.6, spot meter, in camera processing set at normal except gain which is off. Exposure time recorded at 1/15 sec.

My take, and others are welcome to disagree, and I'm by no means an expert, is that for PCs they're pretty much a commodity item now, so the resolution isn't the biggest consideration. I might take a close look at the newer flat screen models to save on deskspace, and because they look kewl.

mine finally died last week, so i just bought the cheapest one i could find off the web. £60 for a black standard crt monitor, you could probably find it even cheaper in the states if you dont want anything fancy. TFT monitors are nicer to look at and generally clearer, but i have a problem with them being sold with dead pixels and it not being considered a fault unless theres more than 10 or less than a few cm apart. i dont think i'd settle for a sharper picture if i was going to have a white dot (or several) staring back at me the whole time. but thats just me!

Sony trinitron are great CRT monitors for graphic's and images.
TFT flat make sense too....

You need to make sure your video card is up to standard for any new monitor.

I like CRT also. But to each his own. One thing I do is to make sure the monitor is calibrated so i get a true idea of what things look like.

jsiladi,

If you're in the market for a new monitor, you may want to check the peripheral section over at dealnews.com: http://dealnews.com/sections/peripherals.html

They have a few monitors listed that may be worth you while. I recently got a KDS 19" Flat CRT for $70.00 after rebates from Office Depot. Its about the best deals I've seen yet. They run it from time to time, may it'll show up again soon.

Hope this helps

Sony 19" LCD. Fabulous, best of the LDC bunch when I got it and it was a steal at $349 after rebates, promos. YesterdayI bought the HP 19" LCD #P9627A#ABA, circuity city web deal, $399 after rebates (retail was $719, but who pays that). Saw it in the store, resisted impulse but bought when I got home. will let you know when it arrives. I have a 30" Batesias LCD, from Eagle Computor, monitor i use as a TV in my studio. Great to view photos on as well. Does it make a difference? Probably not. I do like having extra desk space, more room for my cocktail glass...

Boyzo...I like my toys. And the trashmen have fun with my leftovers!

Oh.. was I supposed to say something clever like "and my software's not bad either". I'm spilling over in blondness again!
