Hi, today I read about the two new models in the Lumix FZ series.
According to Golem.de the FZ4 and the FZ5 are available now.
http://www.golem.de/0502/36164.html (Page 1)
http://www.golem.de/0502/36164-2.html (Page 2)

I've read about the FZ5 on Panasonic.de too, but not yet on Panasonic.com ?!

Steve should test them both, don't you think so, too?

See http://www.dpreview.com/news/0502/05...onicfz4fz5.asp

FZ5 looks very inviting but where is the AF assist? Surely it's there somewhere. Where?

PS: Found it. "In addition, AF assist lamp is equipped for expanding the AF ability even at night or under the low-light conditions."

Defintely interested now.

Interesting indeed.
But I would like to see a direct comparison of the FZ4/5 and the FZ20 (which I would like to buy most, until now...)

I have the fz1 (upgraded to fz2) and am very happy with it. I brieflyhad the fz20 for a couple of weeks and felt that the added pixels were not worth the added size and returned it. I also felt the Venus II processor's noise reduction was a little too strong but will admit I really didn't play with it enough to learn it since I'd already decided not to keep it. Now, that they have come out with a 5mp in the size I want, I will be much more likely to step up to the FZ5. Undoubtedly, the noise reduction again will be an issue, but certain trade-offs have to be expected. The two things I long for - more mp for cropping and increased low light capability (ie, stronger flash and af assist) - make the FZ5very desirable.

Looks like they've increased the size of the grip and moved the shutter button forward like the DSLR which I like. Not sure why they didn't add a manual focus to the camera and I hope they have fixed the FZ's EVF/LCD in low light. I'm happy with my FZ10 for now and if I decide to upgrade I'll go for the FZ30 or whatever its going to be called but I will take a look at FZ4/5 when they show up in the stores.

Has the CCD size changed ?

Harj

:blah:

A good review and the cam looks even better but why they haven;t fixed the EVF/LCD low light problem though is just stupid... grrrr !

Because it's not a problem... it's a feature. :-)

j/k, of course. I agree 100% with you.

As I understand it, the evf/lcd low light problem is primarily a concern when using anexternal flash. Since neither the fz4 or 5 have a hot shoe, I guess that's not an issue. It isn't a problem with the fz1v2.

I guess Ted's in Australia got the jump on everyone on this because of the time difference, eh?

Folks with the FZ15 and FZ20, how much do you think you would miss the manual focus? Looks like that and the lack of 640x480 video are the new FZ5's biggest shortcomings.
