Stopped by the beach with my trusty new FZ-20 and got these shots of a surf yaker riding some nice waves off Satellite Beach on Florida's east coast. The shots were all made shutter priority from 1/400 to 1/800 because I was shooting handheld at 12X zoom. This is a series of shots which will make sense as you see them.

A nice quiet paddle out to the surf line!

Well, maybe not so quiet! He's thinking he might be in trouble!

He knows he's in trouble when his feet are higher than his head!

His kayak is higher than his head!

But hey, it's all worth it for a ride like this!

Nice series, they tell a good story. If you dont mind me saying, I think they are all a little soft/out of focus. I think it is a result of the 12x zoom and very high apertures [around f/8]. I would have used A mode to get in the "sweat spot" and then take the speed you get, which would have been above 1/1000s. Also I would have taken the ISO to the lowest setting and not used 100. I hope you dont mind the comments.

Thanks. I appreciate the comments. I approached the situation the other way and I can see your point. The shutter speed would have taken care of itself. I also learned that my rubber hood works all the way out to 12X without any problems. I also learned it is tough to tracking a moving object at 12X as well. By the way, he survived and was having a ball when I left.
