Sorry I have spazzy fingers. The correct name of this bird is
Pie-billed Grebe.

I have only seen one of these once before. They are a really cute little diver that always looks like they have a smile. He seemed happy diving for goodies in the pond.

very nice, Smac... i like the first one for the sticks poking up out of the water, but i love the grebe's reflection in the second one! both very nice!

I believe so. They are pretty small to begin with, but if this one isn't full grown it is close.

The Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge 90mile north of sacramento on I-5.
It's about 2miles south of the town of Willows. I drive along the six mile auto tour they have. It's open from sunrise to sunset. $4.00 day pass or $12.00 annual pass. What a deal.
