Thanks! In regard to the softness issue, I did point that out in my original post. Should I have used a flash and select the vivd mode to achieve a more sharper result? Should I not have used the full 12X zoom? Then again, I read online that with 3 MP you can't expect to achieve the same result as a 4MP and/or higher megapixel cameras.

The light is not really bright enough to produce sharp pics. You can tweak it. I processed it and it looks fine.

Thanks for advice. I adjusted the sharpness level using the photobase 4.5 software and I can already notice a big difference. This is really cool to know.

if that's a 12x zoom shot, the flash wouldn't help, you're much too far away. vivid mode refers to color saturation, not image sharpness, and would not make any appreciable difference, especially under overcast light. a degree of image 'softness' is inevitable under those conditions, but can be minimized with smaller aperture and a tripod, as fmoore suggested. while image clarity is a factor of many things (in this case, image size, monitor quality, and half a dozen other variables), and is also highly subjective, i will just say that this pic looks just fine for the camera and the lighting and the settings you describe.

*I* think that the picture would look much better if the license plate frames said Heller instead of Kearny Mesa:blah:

I haven't carefully read everything but referring to 12x zoom, you Didn't use it correct? The EXIF you posted states 55.x mm which is about 3 or 4 times zoom. 12x would be 432mm.
