It's someone's deformed and discolored belly button with a strange growth protruding, a common condition suffered by folks who eat too much of the synthetic fat subtitute Olestra. Poor chap.

A mutant martian umbilicus with umbilical cord remnant still attached (on them mutant martians the cord normally does not fall off until one hour before time of death).

Or maybe a Fuji, Gravenstein, experiment in the physics of gravity, William Tell nearby?
