Hey Blue Moon!

I just wanted to let you know the Indians around San Francisco ate clams, lots of clams, for a long time, like one or two thousand years mebbe.

Clams, mussels, and oysters for centuries and centuries.

They dumped the shells in piles, the piles became mounds, huge mounds that white people eventually called middens.

San Francisco Bay has several hills close to the shoreline that are actually shellmounds that have become overgrown.

I guess around here they knew how to keep them pesky clams under control - bust em up, eat em, and dump the shells in piles (Maybe that helped keep the clams from advancing inland).

hey, I just had a half dozen baked clams from Vincent's Clam bar, for lunch, no joke. Delish! Also zuppa di mussels in white wine sauce. I love seafood!
