I can't comment on availabilty or prices in the UK, but I would suggest looking for a canon tl55. It is an excellent, relatively small 1.45x tele with 55mm threads; samethreads asthe fz3 adapter. $80-100 US. Another one to consider is the oly c210 1.9x. It is not as high quality as the tl55 but for the power and price ($40 US) it is quite a performer. Check out olympus emporium special offers. The c210 has 52mm threads so a 55-52mm step down ring will be needed.

I don't know how the tl55 performs on the FZ3, but on the FZ10 it has a poor performance. See http://www.cs.mtu.edu/~shene/DigiCam...e-Compare.html.

The tl55 is a small tele converter. The other four in that comparison are of somewhat higher quality and 2x-3x larger and heavier with centers of gravity that will wear outthe plasticfz3 adapter threads rather quickly. Like you might find it bouncing off your toes soon (Joe, where are you?). They are huge and it will hurt! The freindly, stubby (Joe, where are you?) tl55 does a very nice job with the fz1. Here's a comparison with the tcon17.

fz1 w/ canon tl55

fz1 w/ olympus tcon17

The other teles in the fz10 comparison are considerably bigger than the tcon17.

Ok, the weight is certainly an argument. But what I can't understand is the price. The tcon17, which has 5 elements in 3 groups, is cheaper than the tl55, which is a rather simple lens with 2 elements in 2 groups.

Can you show some 100% crops from the pictures? Crops from the center and from the edges would be interesting.

And do you have some other comparision shots? I was looking for a comparision recently, but did only found tests with the FZ10 or FZ20. As I'm looking for a converter for the FZ3, they are notas significant as a test with the FZ1 would be.

The US prices of the tcon17 and tl55 are about the same ~$90 but the tl55 is in short supply. If I were thinking of getting one of the larger teles like the tcon17, I would want to get the new Yoshida fz3/4/5 aluminum adapter.~$60 US

Apparently there has been a delay in the procurement of materials and the expected ship date has been moved back to??

Not bad. It looks like the tl55 performs a bit better onthe FZ1 than onthe FZ10.

The price of the tl55 is 135-140 € here in Germanywhereas the tcon17 costs only~100 €.

Thanks guys.

I like the look of the Canon tl55 - smaller and lighter. Am I right in thinking that the 420mm max zoom would extend to 609mm?

Limited suppliers in UK and price is £71 (130USD!). Need a better price.

Stoney - that price would be approx 105 Euro, but they only ship to UK.

Fred

thanks for the shots - looks like the Canon lens does a nice job, just as good as the Tcon 17 looking at the pics you posted esp for the price and its size.

That is correct; 1.45x420=609. Is it accurate? I dont know exactly what the power of the tl55 is but a some of us did some measuring with the tcon17 to determine its "real" power and it seems to be closer to 1.6x rather than the stated 1.7x. Apparently, the power as stated is at infinity. As I recall, a shot of the moon w/ and w/o the tcon17 and fz1 indicated a power of about 1.65x. Here is a shot of the above bird bath with the fz1 alone at 12x. All shots were taken from the same spot about 35-40 ft away. You could do a little measuring to get a rough idea of the increase in zoom using the teles.
