These are excellent pictures of a Chinese garden. That is correct the original inventors of this style of gardening are the Chinese. The Japanese saw these gardens in China and brought the concept back to Japan. They are culturally copiers and modifiers. Similar events happened with the automobile, and the Japanese zero from world war one.

Thanks everyone - I really wanted to share these pics but never got around to it. I'd love to go again and this time take some of the other pics I took again - they were well kinda crap.

If there is a J Garden near you I'd recommend poppin over - we have a small garden here in London but its , well compared to the portland one its really pathetic!

Your absoluetly correct about the J Gardens being based on the Chinese Gardens and there is a Chinese Garden in Portland too although thats a lot smaller.
