Picked up a demo FZ-1 on eBay, upgraded the firmware, slapped on a R72 filter and tromped around my backyard in the snow. Looking forward to spring....
If you're interested, the rest of the shoot can be seen here under "Winter Trees"

Nice stuff, tb. Amazingly, there are still a few of these fz1 gems left at near $200, new.An excellent deal. None of the fz series can come close to the fz1 for ir photoswhich can be a whole lot of fun as you so well demonstratewith your winter trees.

Aw come on just add a FZ-1 to your set up. They are a little jewel. I think of my FZ-20 as my stable, long term relationship cam and the FZ-1 as the one I grab for a wild fling!

I'm looking at them again. And couldn't we all use a little wild fling!

Aside from how freeky my backyard looks in IR...the other thing that is blowing my mind is the extensive depth I'm seeing of the shots into the woods. These examples are in no way equalized for exposure or anything (the normal shot happens to be a bit dark in the shadows) but do compare how detailed the "inner woods" is in IR. I've never captured so much depth/detail -way- on back into the thick stuff before.
For example:

#1 bright sun FZ20 color shot:

#2 bright sun IR shot into similar section of woods:

#3 another sense of depth IR shot:

Trippy stuff. Anyone know the physics behind this observation? Is it just that the visible light scatters more than IR or NIR?

I am glad that I have a FZ20 and a FZ1. On a recent cruise, my FZ20 got damaged during a downpour of rain and stopped working. I am glad I had the FZ1 as a backup for the rest of the cruise. BTW, the FZ20 started working again after it dried out 3 days later. The FZ20 seems to be working perfectly, now. Besides as a backup I use the FZ1 for IR. -- Steven
