I have a 422D and I know the trigger voltage is within tolerance but 1981, wow, that's an antique. How can you tell how old the flash is?

Interesting. I have a scanned-in 422D manual and I can't find a date in it anywhere. I'm not disputing your seller since certainlyhe has no reason to lie about the flash being thatoldbut I was just curious about the age of my own 422D.

HereĀ“s the link to the auction on ebay:

If you see the photos, in the manual says "Copyright, 1981..."

Yeah I see that, my scanned manual must be missing the title page. I'm no expert on copyright law but I think that means the manual was first published in 1981, not that that particular copy (or the flash unit) was made in 1981.

The fact that that model and its cousins the 383 and 433 have been around so long is kind of comforting to me actually since if it has made it this far it must have something good going for it. Seriously, I really like my flash and have zero complaints and only praise for it.

My 433D manual says 1983 but it refers to the copyright date of the manual, not the date of the flash manufacture. Mine was made in 2003. I wouldn't worry about it.
