Having followed a few e-bay auctions for a TCON-14B for my phayee-adapted F-10, it looks like I could 'win' a 14B for about $100 plus $10 or so for shipping OR I could purchase a 17B online for $86 plus shipping. Looking at some image comparisons, I'm thinking 14B is better (also is 'native' 62 mm thread), but whadayathink ?

I'd go with the 14b. It's not quite as powerful as the tcon17 (1.45x vs 1.7x) and quite a bit heavier (16.8oz vs 9.1oz) but it is the better quality lens and $100 is a good price. And as you mentioned there is no need for a step ring with the phayee adapter.

Not that I do not like my Tcon17 but the 14B is quite a lens.

Do not get in a hurry I got one on Ebay about a month ago for 92 bucks.

It's hard NOT to 'jump in'. I play the 'stealth' mode. Watch until the very last minute and then put my max in. Most of the time I watch as someone gets just above me but not enough to meet my max. Most times there isn't enough time to re-enter. Has worked in the past. But boy it's hard not to go above. I do want to get some before my daughter's track meets get into high gear though.
