Nice pics! Question, was the second pic taken using the full 12X zoom? With respect to the JPEG compression level, how good would you say it is?

the second pic is the same pic as the first. It is a detail crop from the full size to show noise levels etc. for those interested in this new camera....
I've tried candles before with other cameras and this is the best I feel. I am impressed by the detail including the blue part below the flame...
The jpeg compression seem fine to me.
Overall am very happy with this camera and how it is turning out. In longest zoom outside I did see some purple fringing though......

This subject and conditions are relatively easy to duplicate and would make a great standardized test for different cameras at various settings. Use constant distance from the flame in a dark room, and anyone could paricipate. Noise, white balance, various ISOs, etc...

Now an expert is gonna tell me all wicks and waxes don't burn the same color, huh? Hmmm...maybe we could all use just white candles of the same brand from Target, no aromatherapy ones.

Since you have the FZ5 camera ....

I was wondering if this camera allows third party lenses like the Raynox PRO 2020?

Can you screw on extra conversion lenses?

Yes. The fz1/2/3/4/5 come with 55mm threaded tube adapters (not all the same design) that accept add-on lens. Be aware that the stock adapter is plastic and BIG teles such as the 2020 may wear those plastic threads out.

The english fz5 manual is downloadable as an 8mb pdf file at http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/DMCFZ5PP.PDF
