I'd say you did pretty well with both full sun and shade on the subject. One thing I have tried successsfully in this case is to use the flash, cut down a stop or so and then on the slow flash setting so you get the natural light as well. Worth a shot or two to experiment. You can always erase them if they don't work (unlike film : ).

Very nice picture. Actually strong light (contrast) may just be the ticket for this one. I love the highlight at the edges of the leaves and your composition . Hope you don't mind, but I played with you picture a little. I turned up the contrast and color a tad. and did a little burning, what do you think?

I like how Hiroshi's pp brought ut the pink tips of the petals more, but prefer the slightly more subdued lighting on boyzo's original.

Great job...

I think you balanced it out perfectly between the sun and shade.

I like the contrast and the shadow. I also like how the composition is off-center with the center portion of the plant in the lower right quadrant. The ole "rule of thirds".

Very, very good! I agree with Hiroshi and Nick's critiques. The contrast of light and shadow, and the off center composition make this one. I'm partial to succulents anyway, but even if I didn't have such a large collection of them that my wife has threatened divorce if I add any more, I'd still like this shot. Well done.

As usual, your eye is exellent John. I also prefer the subdued lighting on the original shot.:G I like your view of the world.
