Hi Everyone,

I've been looking into getting an FZ-20 for the past month or so and it has proven to be a tricky camera to find in stock! I now see mention of the FZ-5 that is out this month and was wondering if anyone could briefly tell me what the major differences are between the two models, if there are any?

I had a quite disappointing experience trying to purchase the FZ-20 from a place online called Circuit Digital, so I would recommend NOT buying from them. So, before I go out searching for a good place to get the FZ-20, I was just hoping to find out if it would be more worth my time to go out and find the FZ-5 at this point. Looks like the price is a little cheaper, so is the FZ-20 worth the extra $$?

Thanks for any info!!

Welcome Purdue. I've seen this asked a few time recently so can direct you to a speedy reply. Check this thread. http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/view_topic.php?id=52890&forum_id=23

Hint for future: Always try searching the forums first Purdue. Odds are your question may have been asked / answered already. That will be a time saver for you, and a "typing" saver for the gurus on this forum.

Thanks a bunch Suze, that was indeed very helpful and answered my question! Guess I'll stick with the FZ-20 since it has the manual focus ring and hot-shoe attachment. Now, I just have to find a place that has it!

15

Actually, the 20's biggest attribute (IMHO) not shared by the FZ5 is the manual focus ability. Plus it has a slightly brighter lense, and can handle add-on filters and converters better than the FZ5

On the other hand, the FZ5 has faster auto focus, is smaller and lighter, and $200 cheaper.

Anytime Purdue :-) If you give your location (or add it to your profile) then some of the members may able to suggest someplace in your country / state, etc.

By the way, I love my FZ20 !

Thanks a lot! I added that info to my profile as you suggested.

AND, I just purchased an FZ-20 from a place called Beach Camera, which had an over 9 rating on the consumer ratings website. Looking forward to getting it and trying it out! Any advice on a good hotshoe flash for it? I've heard the Sunpak 383 is a good one for this camera, but I've had no luck finding a place that had it in stock.

The Sunpak 422d or 433d works nicely as well. They can usually be found used on Ebay for pretty good prices. I just got a 422d for $31.00 shipped and it works great.

By the way, I never thanked nooner for that tip - thanks you saved me a ton of money bro!!

Thanks Jed for the Sunpak flash info. I'll definitely be checking that out on E-bay if those are the prices you can find for it!
