Interesting opinion, about what I expected. The FZ-5 would be the camera I would get if I didn't have a digital camera or already have a Lumix. But I do hate to give up IR. He says not to give up the FZ-1 but I dunno, will you really make use of two cameras that are this similar, unless you can pass it down to someone else in your house and "borrow it" from time to time?

What a great comparison review. I did the same for the hp850 vs Hp945 a while back ( www.photosmarty.plus.com for anyone thats interested) and thoroughly enjoyed doing it. I had lots of visitors and responces and hope you have the same. Sometimes a review like this makes alot more 'realtime' sense than all those complicated 'chart' reviews :O

I'm currently looking to purchase the FZ5 and can safely say this review has helped me alot, thanks.

I was surprised to see its IR capabilities were poor though, its something my HP exceeds at, although I guess I could live without it!

I enjoy IR myself so much so I have two FZ1v2's. Just the other one is in a more environmentally fun place right now. Will be retrieving it soon though.

California here I come.
