First off, welcome! Now... I hope you don't mind my saying - however, the focus on the statue you posted is a bit soft. The speedboat here has some motion blur.

For the first pic (statue), don't know what to tell you. Did the green light stop blinking? Seems like it focused on the background.

One the speedboat, try a faster shutter speed, perhaps?

captured the sense of speed well, but it'd look a lot nicer if the boat was in clear focus. not always the easiest thing to do, i know, especially without an optical viewfinder, and with the dull gray light you had to work with. keep practicing, though... you're on the right track!! :G

The camera was in auto. f8, 1/100. Shutter was to slow. Also the houseboat in the background is blurred so it looks like the camera was moving to follow the boat. Try sports mode or a higher shutter speed in shutter priority. Use the burst mode. Read up in manual on how to use the panning mode also. Try some shots out of the auto mode. 2cents:arrow:

Resize to 720x540 as nooner stated and it looks like not enough light to capture this one with the FZ5. Looks out of focus but not an easy shot with the conditions and the limitations of this camera. It is not very strong with fast motion in low light. Possibly using higher shutter speed would have worked.

Best bet in this scenario is to go manual.
