Just spotted the D50/D70 pre-reviews on the dpreview, could be interesting stuff.

Any chance of letting us know when you've done a preview of the new cams inc. the FZ5 ?

Looks to be quite a camera, the D50. Wonder what it will cost?

Nick

I was thinking the same thing, the spec looks very good, although it would be nice with ISO100. Size wise it looks right, its using SD cards and its got spot focus which the 350Xt doesn't. The D70 here is being sold for £700 + a £100 rebate and comes with a DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-70 f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED. I'd like the option of the D50 with that lens.

Harj

PS.

The magazine that i mentioned I think is available outside teh UK via subscription. I'll mail you the details

D50 kit with 18-55 lens $899. D70s with 18-70 lens $1199. The D50 is bigger than the XT and the *isDS. I don't know. For $300 step up to a D70s with the cool lens. *isDS body can be had for less than $700. Lots of decisions:?:

Yeah damn confusing - if the D50's good I think Pana needs to bring a gem to beat it and for less $$.

Let's say D50 body for $799. 18-70 USA from BH $339. D50 +lens $1138. D70s kit same lens $1199. $61 difference..................:?:

D70 kit (not the D70s) $1000-$100 rebate=$900:?:

Harj I have studied D70 Images at ASA200 and they are impressive, don't forget even the Pro 20D defaults to ASA200.
Both have sensors 25 x a Lumix.
Think of ASA200 as a bonus. ;-)

Cheers

Thanks for heads up on the D50

The D50 with
AF-S DX 18 - 55 mm F3.5 - F5.6G ED
and
AF-S DX 55 - 200 mm F4.0 - F5.6G ED

27-300 mm equiv

add a 2x convertor to get 600mm zoom
looks good.

Simple no extenders.

I do like the *isDS the body is alloy and its small you need to pick 2 lenses to cover 18/55 and 55/200.

Thanks Harj! Appreciate it.

Decisions, decisions...

Petax - love the size of the thing, great value.
D70 - all around great cam, and great value. But the size of the thing.
D50 - less expesive, and even better value - a few fewer bells and whistles, a bit smaller.

The Rockwell article really has me sold on the electronic shutter synching at all speeds. And I do use this on the FZ-1v2. Kinda rules out the Pentax, but I dunno. Am I placing too much emphasis on this feature?

Reading up on the 3/4ths system. CCD doesn't seem to have the same high iso capability as the other DSLRs. Plus, there will have to be a limited lens selection. Pana/Oly are going to have to pull something out of their hat on this one. The only inticement I see is price.
