Looks like a put on. No other posts from Canon about it.

Actually, it does seem to be true. There are several other links about it.

"Canon releases the 12x optical zoom, 5.0 Megapixel Canon Powershot S2 IS digital camera.

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., April 22, 2005 – A convincing blend of versatility with power, this worthy successor to the Canon Powershot S1 IS features optical Image Stabilizer technology...[etc]"

And then again it might not...

other optional accessories include Canon's High Power Flash HF-DC1
I wonder how this is hooked up since there is no hot shoe. Also no manual WB, unless its under the custom setting.

It's official - new Canon S2 - posted in News page on DCResource:

http://www.dcresource.com/news/index.php?date=2005-04

Also, there's a preview with pics of the camera at DPReview:

http://www.dpreview.com/news/0504/05042201canons2is.asp

It has manual focus but not hot shoe.

About macro, it repeats that (but it doesn't make sense?):
"0 cm super macro mode (just don't scratch the lens...)"

I just saw this post from Phil Askey of DPReview:
"Yeah, I thought it was a pretty silly spec myself.. Basically what Canon are trying to say is that the camera should be able to focus on anything no matter how close it is. But you're right, you can't light something which is touching the lens (unless it's backlit).
A better spec would have been the optimum frame coverage (as we measure in our reviews)."

It is real. One thing that is interesting is the swivel LCD with low light gain up. That could sway a lot of buyers and since Panasonic will not address the issue and it can't be fixed with firmware more people will like the camera for that alone. I think Panasonic is missing the feedback or simply doesn't care as long as sales are good..
