Hello Panasonic Users,

I'm torn between the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX7K 5MP and the Canon Powershot SD500 7MP Digital Elph - yes yes yes, I know all about the 7mp on the Canon, but I want more clear sharper pictures and I think the Leica lens in the Lunix might be a better lens for better pics than the canon. Can anyone corroborate or comment on this?

I really am torn and need to know why the Lumix is better.

I tried the canon and the pics don't look that clear, even
as a 7mp.

Please Help,

Thanks,
S.V.

The Canon has more MP and takes better movies (640x480) but OIS is what sells the FX7...

I have had mine since February and have had no problems with it so far.

I think you've answered your own question!

I can't comment on either camera fully, but if you're having so much doubt about the Canon then go for the Pana. Either way they're both good cameras so you won't be totally disappointed.

Why don't you look at as many sample pics as possible on the reviews throughout the internet and compare the two? Or go to the following site and try the two together. (i assume thy're both listed - havent checked though.)

Thanks so much! What does OIS mean as it relates to better pics from a better lens? I tried to find what this means as an advantage but has no luck. Do you think the leica would be better than the Canon lens? I'm really green about this.
Thanks again,
S.V.

OIS is image stablization. Helps with camera shake at slow shutter speeds.

I suppose you are aware that the LCD is the only viewfinder on the FX7. You have no eye level optical finder.
