OK, I'm new at having some of the fancier stuff on a camera to play with, and I have read a few articles about what a histogram does.

My question is, do most of you take pictures with it showing on the LCD or EVF? If you get any of the histogram pushing against the right edge (which I understand is the only really "bad" histogram) do you adjust your exposure settings and frame the picture again?

What is the most useful way to incorporate the histogram so there is no surprises when you see the picture on your monitor later?

i use the histogram all the time ...it' takes a lot of the guess work out of the proper exposer..i try to get the graph in the center with the curve rising to the middle like a mountain peak..i will adjust the exposer to center it some times adjusting the shutterspeed or at times changing the f stop..one of the things i notice is where you point the focus ring to a lite area or a dark area you will get different readings on the histogram...
