in the financial woes arena. They had a net loss last year.

What I don't get, is these things are disposable like razor-blades. People seem to be buying more cameras than ever, and only hold on to them for a couple years, as opposed to the film camera days when you bought a camera and held on to it for decades.

I don't know the economics of producing digital cameras, but it seems counter-intuitive.

Olympus had a net of $33,564 million in 03' and a minus$11,827 millionin o4' This is more then just digital cameras.



The AV division of the Matsushita, which has Lumix, TVs and AV equipment, made 34,871 million in 03' and 33,685 million in 04'.



The Matsushita Company made $553,535,166 net profit in 04.



Maybe the pie is not as big as we think.

May not be a very accurate thought process going on here, but I'm guessing they're choice to use XD format almost exclusively has hurt them a great deal. People have seen the cost of those memory cards and the lack of promos/rebates and say, "Yikes! I gotta get real here and figure in another $40-$70 in the cost". Makes that Canon and it's $13 (after rebate) CF card look better all the time.
I realize the XD prices have finally been coming down a little lately...but it took way too long.
Seems like the same kinda thinking almost buried another company a few years back...Apple Computer.
