short story:

i ordered a Sunpak 433D sunday night with 2Day shipping so I would have it by this friday. the store messed up and now i wont have it by friday. so i canceled the order.

now i'm searching for a store that would carry flashes that would work with the FZ20 and i found this small one called Lakes Photo Group close to my house. they dont have the Sunpak 383/422/433 but they do have others including the Sunpak 2000 DC(i think?) and the Vivitar 2000 and some others he said. tomorrow i'm going by to check what he has and buy one.

what should i look for in the flash to know it will work well with the FZ20 and not have any problems? please advice on what other flashes i could look for at the store besides the sunpak ones. thanks:!:

Iuse a non dedicated Sunpak 422D and a Nikon dedicated Vivitar 3700,both work just fine in the hot shoe. The key is to make sure the triger voltage is no more than 24volts if you are going to use the camera's hot shoe. There is a list on the web somewhere just Google "flash trigger voltage". It's a little out of date but you might find something.
A work around is to buy the new Sunpak digi-grip whichsells for about $30.00 in the US. The great thing about the grip is that you can set the slave tofire on the 4th flash, the first 3 are pre-flashes (FZ20).Now the camera's built inflash will fire ANY flash on the grip. On thenegative side, the grip isall plastic andtoo sturdy but it works fine for me.

Sunpak 383, 422, and 433
Vivitar 283 and 285

Those are the most recommended.

Looks like the Sunpak 2000DZ will work by the specs. Guide # is 66 so it's not as powerful as the 383. Only two auto settings and no manual power adjustment. Bounce head but not swivel. B&H Photo price $43.50. I'd wait for a 383/422/433 myself.

well tomorrow i'll head over and see what they have in store, so far here's my checklist of features, please add to it as necessary

must swivel

must bounce

must have no more than 10 volts of trigger voltage(want to be safe!)

what's a good guide number?

Vivitar now do the DF200 specifically for digi cameras. Not tried it so can't comment on it's ability.

I graduated from HML in 87, damn Im getting old

Go for the Sunpak 383. Its probably your safest bet, it does everything you say you need.
