Thanks for the nice comment on the homemade hood lovelife. I have a Contax No. 5 hood on order from B&W but it has been back order for quite some time. I hope I eventually get it.

While looking at Raynox lens prices I saw there was a 2020 and a 2020 pro. The 2020 costing much less than the 2020 pro. In looking at reviews of the 2020 pro lens I found it was highly rated. So, I just wanted to make sure you were talking about the same lens as I will be taking your opinion into consideration when making my decision. Thanks

I've only seen the 2020PRO on the Raynox site when I look at the lenses available for the FZ20. All their lenses seem to end with "PRO".

The 2020 has a resolution of 260 lines/mm, whereas the 1540 has a resolution of 340 lines/mm. Perhaps I'm wrong but that seems a big step down in resolution when you consider that the 2020 will be magnifying a test target more than the 1540, and yet achieves a lower resolution. The 1540 is generally regarded as the better quality lens albeit at a slightly lower magnification.

Perhaps the resolution issue is what is throwing off your auto-focus.

Yes, I know about it, always in short supply. I was going to design a hood for the Tcon14B it takes 86mm, which I think, is the same as the Contax No. 5. BTW, what is the ODat the front on thePanasonic Tele? Same question; what is in ID of the lens cap and does it screw or press on?
How deep can the hood be without vignetting? I think the Contax is shallower then your custom model. I was hoping that 3 inches would work with a 86mm ID at the front.

The Front I.D. on the pana is 86 mm. But there are no screw threads. I filed down the treads on a Tiffen UV filter (52 bucks)so it would fit. Then Iused black tape to hold it to the front of the lens. The lens cap presses on (felt lined on sides) and will work on the Tiffen filter also. I measured the O.D. of the lens at 90 mm or so.

My hommade lenshood is 120mm deep (almost 5 in.) and there is no vignetting. The Contax is very short, but I was counting on it being a little more rugged than mine. The field of view is very narrow on the tele lens. I was suprised at first until I thought about it. It has to be or the photos would be extremely wide.
