I've been browsing for a wide angle conversion lens, and see that eBay is selling a kitwith botha 2x telecoverter and 0.45x wide angle/macro lens for the FZ5, plusa 55-58mm step-up ring. Price is hard to beat at around US$100.

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...77289&rd=1

There are similar deals for FZ3, but they don't give specs on thread diameter etc.

I'm a bit suspicious about a dealthis "good".Has any FZ user tried these lenses, and if so, how good are they?Optical quality, vignetting, etc.How would they compare with the other name brand converters (eg WCON-07, Canon WD55, Raynox SRW-6600) for quality. (I'm not trying to compare the degree of wide angle, of course they're way different.)

Thanks.

Heres their website. the only comment I would make is that they only seem to go upto a 52mm thread which if the FZ5 is the same as the FZ20 at 62mm is a bit of a step down. i don't know if that would lead to problems??

Thanks ukwoody. There seems to be some disagreement on that website's pages. Click on the "B-58T -2.0x 52mm Telephoto Lens" and it opens to a page that describes it as58mm diameter, as do the other three 58-series lenses!! The "52mm" must be a misprint.

The FZ5 like the FZ3 before it has 55mm threads, so presuming the 58mm is correct, then one would need a step-up ring as provided in the eBay kit.

Anyway, I'm hoping that somebody out there can provide a user review for these lenses.

Your suspicions will serve you well. These lenses are very poor quality. You will be totally disappointed.
