Of course much has been written about the zoom & OIS of the FZ series already, and i already had seen some zoom-sample pics, but still I was happily astounded when I saw the results of some of the first tryout pics I made with my new FZ20.

Taken through the glass of my balcony-door, without using a tripod, IOS mode On (don't remember if it was mode 1 or 2), and the pic size accidentilly set at 2048 x 1536 (in stead of2560 x 1920) I even discovered at that moment, when zooming in,the electric windmill justappearing above the faraway roof. I had never seen it before! :O:lol:

Later on I went looking for that mill, to find out where it was located exactly and what approximate distance it was from my house.

It turned out to be some 2 - 2.5 kilometers (about 1.2 - 1.5 miles)!

0 x zoom:

12x zoom:

12x optical + 4x digital zoom:

Incredible, eh? :?

(the pics are only downsized (with Irfanview)no additional editing has taken place)

ps. ISO wasat 100, and operating in Program AE mode (P)

Nice example, you can count the chimney bricks in the last 48X zoom and quality is good.

So how far is it to the new mill? I'll guess 3km. I've added a 1.7X TCON17 to the 48 and gotten good results. Tom :-)

WOW! That is a great example of the full range of zooming that can be done.
