I just got around try digital zoom (taking pics of birds), but found out that it doesn't work.

I go from 1x to 12x and hold the lever at 12x for 20seconds and it doesn't go into the digital zoom spectrum.

Camera is a DMC-FZ15

Wondering if anyone else has had this problem. It was purchased in Feb from Butterfly Photo

Have you turned the digital zoom on in the menu?

Ah yes, the manual....
Default for D.Zoom if OFF, you have to turn it on. Once you do, it will work, and annoy you, and you will go back and turn it off again.

also, you have to let up on the zoom lever for a moment, otherwise it will just stop at the 12x mark. zoom to 12x, then take your finger off trhe zoom lever for a moment, and then press to zoom further. Panasonic's way of making sure you really want to use the digital zoom before you actually do it.

Oooh thanks! Works now! I'll remember to use it when I go out taking pics of birds again.

Jess, post some pics taken with the digi zoom enabled. It will be very interesting to actually see the quality of the results.

Cheers Woody

Digital zoom does a pretty good job but I can get better results at full optical zoom followed by cropping and resizing in post processing. If you can't do that, or don't want to then, by all means use it.
