My FZ10 warranty is the only extended warranty I've ever bought. With many items you have options when it breaks, with a digital camera, I am powerless. I can only send it to Panasonic and accept their verdict. $50. is cheap enough to put my mind at least partially at ease.

I'd say it depends on how long you plan to keep the camera :-)
If you feel it is working good enough for you, and you plan to keep using it for a long time to come then the extended warranty is probably a good thing.

If you are one of those that needs to have the latest and greatest then no, the camera will be "obsolete" and I suspect you will be wanting to replace it with the newer whiz-bang model long before any service may be needed.

Also what do these extended warranties cover?
I tried to get additional insurance on my cameras and got a quote of 200$ a year for just fire and theft. And well a camera fire is not likely, so it would be just for theft.
