Which is the better way to go,
62mm tube with 62mm filter with 62mm Hama hood or,
62mm tube 62mm filter,72mm tube 72mm Hama hood?
What is the reason for the second tube?I read it is simply a hood, but not a good one.
If I use the 62mm tube with the 62mm Hama hood will the two pieces together be long enough to work properly?

It is just a hood but I am not sure about the no good part.

It could be a little longer but it works just fine.

If you feel you need the hama hood you could putone on either piece ...why not try it with out the hama hood and make up your own mind if you need another hood.

I bought a hoya rubber hood a while ago ,that stays in the junk drawer.

genece.
You are the first to say the Phayee 72mm tube/hood works ok.It is what I really want to hear.I really don't want to have to deal with the rubber hood if I can help it.
It sure would be nice to hear from someone else on this issue.Hopefully positive stuff!

IMHO if you need much more hood than that you must be trying to shoot into the sun and not much will help that.

Like I say give it a try you can always get another hood later.

After the FZ30 there may be lots of stuff I need rid of.

I will just keep it for now, like many other parts I have that see very little use.

The Hoya hood is a dud because it can not take a lens cap and is 2mm shorter then the Hama. The Hama has threads for a cap.

Since you already have the Phayee, I would buy the 72mm Hama. You would be way ahead of the game. A nice deep folding hood should serve you well. With a zoom, you want a hood that is as deep as the ocean.... well not that deep. This is not a sun hood. Sun is the least of the problem. Ambient light that is the problem. Ambient light are rays that are bouncing off objects all around the lens front. They cross thru the light beam entering the camera and can wash out colors.

The Phayee napkin ring is toooo short.
